The 7th Maiden City Scottish
Highland Dance Competition

Wednesday 11th, 10.30am sharp - 3.30pm - Memorial Hall

A day that highlights the very best in young Scottish dance. The event will begin at 10.30am sharp and will bring together young dancers to compete for the seventh Maiden City Scottish Highland Dance Competition. Organisers are looking forward to attracting competitors from Ulster, Scotland and further afield. Competition will be for Primary, Beginners, Novice, Intermediate and Premier. The event will be organised by the Sollus School of Highland Dance.

All entrants must be registered with SOBHD, and the entry fee will be just £1.50 per dance. Entries must be registered before Saturday 17th July. Having just returned from a short Spanish tour and successful week playing the Glastonbury Festival U.K., Balkan Alien Sound are preparing to embark on another festival filled summer 2010 returning for the third year to the Maiden City Festival. The seven piece ensemble offer Gypsy, Klezmer and Balkan songs dances with energetic rhythms and fast paced melodies that can often leave crowds riotous. Formed in 2007 due to interest gained by travel and research of Balkan and Gypsy music and culture, the band offer their own fresh take on the dances of Bulgaria, Turkey and Romania as well as the subtle folk songs of Serbia and Macedonia takled with precision by vocalist Aideen McGinn.

FURLO are an indie jerky five piece rock band based in the Derry/Limavady area of Northern Ireland.Since their formation in the summer of 2006, they have forged a path in the music scene via their first EP 'CONCUSSED GIRLS'. This self-release gained the band much respect from critics and press alike. Last Year was one of the most productive and successful years for the band, highlights include: Winning studio time with Komodo Studios / Getting airplay on the popular Rory McConnell show on Radio One / Being featured on the renowned BandWidthFilms.com / Playing with acts such as Ash, And so I watch you from afar, General Fiasco, Panama Kings and local rock heroes Fighting with Wire amongst others / and not forgetting their THIRD time playing live at the GlasgowBury Festival! Already this year Furlo have been receiving airplay on BBC Radio One, BBC Electric Mainline and BBC Radio Ulster promoting their new E.P. SIGNATURE, following an interview with ATL Radio and an appearance on the popular Balcony TV Dublin. The band kicked off a two month tour with a show at the respected Glasgowbury G-Sessions. They are currently in mid tour which is set to end in March when theyíll be returning to the studio to start recording new material! Crimson Players - Variety Show

Wednesday 11th - Variety Show is 8pm-10pm, - Memorial Hall

The Crimson Players has provided many pantomimes and shows through the years, and the new Variety Show in 2008 was a Festival hit. Norman Rosborough presents a new show of songs, sketches, comedy and dance brought together especially for the Festival. Everyone taking part is local, the sketches introduce references to familiar local characters, and the show is relaxed and fun. Anyone who has been to a Crimson Players show will know what a great performance they create for the Mem.

LATE NIGHT – Shania Cain

Wednesday 11th - after Variety Show is 10.15pm-Late - Minor Hall

The evening is crowned with a queen of country tribute: Shania Cain provides contemporary country sounds to dance to including; Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Dixie Chicks, Dolly Parton and more! from 10.30pm.
