Programme for Saturday 7th August

Traditional Country Craft Fair

Saturday 7th - 12noon-4pm - London Street, Cathedral Car Park

A great choice of country crafts across a range of stalls. A wonderful place to pick up locally produced items as a little something different.

Bluegrass on the Walls

Saturday 7th - 1pm-4pm - Around the Walls

Bluegrass on the Walls is a popular event that takes music to the walls, streets and shopping centres of the City. Once again a selection of the very best in Bluegrass will be on the streets and Walls of the City. Playing on the day will be the Niall Toner Band, Broken String Band, Woodbine, Clew Bay Critters, Wookalily, Janet Holmes & Band and Acoustic Grass. All the bands join in a weekend of great music, evolved from the music that once departed from the shores of Ulster, and returning to the Maiden City for this headline event that opens the Festival to everyone. We are delighted to join with the Foyle Folk Festival which is running Friday 6th-Sunday 8th. Both have combined to offer a free afternoon of bluegrass folks at Café Del Mondo. Wookalily and the Broken String Band will be playing between 1pm and 4pm in the courtyard, weather permitting.

Maiden Grass

Saturday 7th - 7.30pm-10pm - The Junction, Bishop Street

An all female line-up of Bluegrass inspired music including the exciting Wookalily, the delightful Janet Holmes and the lovely Eilidh Patterson.

Line Dance Extravaganza

Saturday 7th 9pm till Late - Memorial hall

Once again hosted by the wonderful Elma and Sharon this promises to be an extraordinary night with Disco by DJ Frankie and DJ Keith, and live music from MT ALLAN direct from Blackpool's Norbeck Castle, and an exhibition performance by the 2010 World Champion. Line Dance is popular across all communities and has a dedicated following in the Maiden City, and the Memorial Hall is delighted to be a central dance venue where everyone is welcome.

What they said after 2009:

...congratulations to the promoters of the Maiden City Festival hosting an event such as the Line Dancing Extravaganza is a fantastic opportunity to show all religions can come under one roof and dance and enjoy music..."

"It was great to see so many groups brought together in a venue… welcoming all, regardless of age, gender, or religious denomination."
