Programme for Saturday 14th August

Relief of Derry Pageant

Saturday 14th - 12.00noon at Carlisle Roundabout

The Crimson Players' Pageant is a central feature of the Festival. Carlisle Roundabout provides the perfect start point for the main Parade that celebrates the Relief of Londonderry, and the Pageant a perfect precursor to the Parade. The Pageant provides context and place to the historic events of 1688-89. It also provides an outstanding piece of street theatre that is a main feature of the Festival. Fireworks on the Foyle herald the main parade of the Apprentice Boys of Derry as it crosses the Craigavon Bridge and highlights the theme of the Festival week and this special day for Protestants as we celebrate the Relief of the Siege of Londonderry, and celebrate too the Civil and Religious Liberty that underpins our celebration of diversity.

Relief of Derry Commemorations

Saturday 14th - Londonderry
The 321st Annual Commemoration of the Relief of Londonderry

The highlight of the week for the Apprentice Boys of Derry Association, the Commemorative events will include the traditional Walking of the Walls, Remembrance at the Cenotaph, the Service of Thanksgiving, pageant and the largest Parade of the year for Apprentice Boys from across the UK and overseas. The day's events take place with a celebratory mood. Derry day is one of the most enjoyable for the Apprentice Boys of Derry. In recent years more and more people have returned to making the occasion a good family 'day out'. We hope that continues and that all will find a friendly environment and bring themselves and their curiosity to the City for the finale of the Maiden City Festival week.
