The Maiden City Festival is the premier celebration of diversity in Ulster, a tribute to the Apprentice Boys of Derry and to the communities of the City in the way in which the Festival has been embraced as a flagship that genuinely promotes the Maiden City.
Once again The Maiden City Festival combines favourites and friends, alongside new shows and new ideas. This is a showcase for Protestant culture of tolerance and openness for the heritage that is entrusted to the Apprentice Boys of Derry. The Festival is an excellent example of how a singular culture can be enjoyed by everyone.
Through an array of cultural medium we show diversity and creativity from within the Protestant community in new and challenging ways. It is also becoming a home for all those who wish to celebrate music, song or dance - just for the love of it in a politics-free baggage-free environment.
The Maiden City Festival 2005 aims to build on the success of previous years and to attract even more people from the City to our events and to bring in even more visitors from beyond the North West. The Festival works hard to bring pride and tourist trade to the City in what has in the past been a quiet time for City traders.
Our eighth year continues to offer something for everyone. This will be the highlight of the August holiday period, a credit to the Protestant community and a major visitor attraction on the North West's summer calendar.
The Maiden City Festival is the way in which the Protestant community of Londonderry, a minority community, is able to make a contribution to the life of the City and to the diversity of expression of culture. The Festival would like to thank all those who have contributed their time, energy and imagination, and especially to those who are not members of the Apprentice Boys of Derry, and a special thanks to our funders.
